On the whole, your digestive system seems to be working great with only the occasional annoying gut symptom. 

Some gut symptoms can be completely normal eg. feeling bloated after overeating (think christmas lunch) or burping/belching after fizzy drinks.

It’s most likely that you only need some
minor tweaks for your gut to feel perfect.
  

Here’s 3 quick tips for keeping that fabulous gut happy and healthy:

  1. DIVERSITY is king!
    The happiest, healthiest guts have a huge variety of microbes living and thriving in them. How do you get diversity in your gut? By having a DIVERSE DIET. Aim for lots of different vegetables and fruits (plus a variety of colours …purple carrots anyone?), grains and pseudo grains that suit your body, legumes if you handle them well, herbs and spices, animal and plant proteins, healthy fats.

  2. Cultured or Fermented Foods
    Fermented foods aren’t just about the beneficial microbes. They also contain the byproducts of fermentation (lactic acid, acetic acid, butyric acid) that are a fuel source for healthy intestinal cells. Remember to begin with small amounts of fermented foods (1 tsp daily) and build it up over time to avoid detox/die off symptoms.

    Some easily sourced fermented foods you may like to try include yoghurt, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut and kimchi.

  3. Prebiotic Foods
    These foods FEED YOUR MICROBIOME. They are a food source that can specifically target certain types of beneficial microbes and allow them to flourish in your gut. Again, remember to start at very low doses (1/4 tsp if using in a powdered form) and gradually build them up over time. A byproduct of microbes being fed their favourite food can be gas :) and going slowly can help to avoid embarrassment :).
